Responsible Gaming

What should decide how much you gamble?

Decide the amount before you start, not while you are playing. Set a figure you can treat as already spent, the way you would treat the cost of a night out, and stop when it is gone. Deciding in advance matters because judgement about money changes once a game is underway: a small win can make the amount in play feel larger than it is, and a loss can make continuing to play feel like the only way to fix it. Neither feeling makes the maths any different.

Never chase a loss by increasing the amount to make up for what has gone. Chasing is a decision made under pressure, and pressure is exactly when a plan set out in advance is most useful. Keep gambling separate from borrowed money or money earmarked for bills, so that a losing session cannot turn into a debt problem on top of a gambling one. Take breaks during a session and between sessions; stepping away for even a short time gives you a chance to check whether you still want to continue for the reason you started, rather than out of habit.

Where do account controls such as limits and self-exclusion actually live?

Controls like deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion are all things a person sets up inside an account at a gambling operator. This site has no account, no form and no server-side application behind it, so nothing published here can switch one of those controls on, check whether one is active, or enforce one. If you want any of them, they need to be arranged directly with the operator you are playing with, inside your account there.

In the same way, nobody's age is verified on this site and no gambling takes place on it. Any check of that kind happens only at the destination once you follow a link there. Each of the ten operator listings on this site ends with the same line: check availability and the current terms at the destination before claiming anything, because eligibility rules and terms apply there and can change without notice. Everything you can actually do with money starts only after you leave this site; from the moment an operator link redirects you, the rules, checks and account controls that apply are the destination's, not anything published here. The eighteen-and-over restriction is repeated throughout this site, including on the front page and at the end of every operator listing, but repeating it is not the same as checking it.

Where can you find independent help, and who might you involve?

Every page of this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: begambleaware.org, gamblingtherapy.org and gamcare.org.uk. These are the only outbound links on the whole site that are not commercial: unlike the operator links, they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisations' own websites. This site receives nothing when a reader follows them, and no advertising or behavioural profiling network is present in these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader who has shown risky behaviour.

Involving someone else early is worth doing as soon as gambling stops feeling like entertainment, rather than waiting until it has become a bigger problem. A second opinion from someone outside the situation, whether that is a friend, a family member, or one of the independent organisations linked above, can see patterns that are hard to notice from inside a losing run or a winning streak. That is a practical reason to talk about it early, before a habit has had time to settle in.
